Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center

PROJECT IN PROGRESS

The Mexican American Cultural Center Phase 2 project expands and renovates Austin’s premier cultural hub near Rainey Street and Lady Bird Lake. The team added and renovated roughly 45,000 SF, bringing music rehearsal spaces, classrooms, galleries, a teaching kitchen, and refreshed performance areas to the City of Austin’s ESB-MACC campus. Site improvements rework the central zocalo with a new circular shade structure and reshape circulation, landscaping, and accessibility throughout the grounds. A joint venture of Miró Rivera Architects and Tatiana Bilbao Estudio leads the design, honoring the original Teodoro González de León building. The work targets LEED Silver and Austin Energy Green Building 3-Star certification, with community engagement and artist coordination shaping every phase, including the careful protection and reinstallation of the iconic Snake Trail.
