Powering the Future of Texas

THE STATE’S DATA CENTER BOOM IS DRIVING RECORD POWER DEMAND. WE’RE BUILT TO DELIVER.

If you’ve been following the headlines, or the projects breaking ground across Texas, you’ve seen the surge in data center construction. AI is fueling increased demand for data processing and storage, driving billions of dollars into expanding capacity. These projects are disrupting the AEC industry, and we’re determined to stay ahead of the curve.

A DECADE OF STRATEGY, PAYING OFF TODAY

RO saw this shift coming long before AI dominated the conversation. A decade ago, we made a strategic bet on data centers, building out a mission critical practice. That investment positioned us ahead of the curve, and today, we’re expanding that foundation with a team built for the future.

Data centers are among the most complex projects in construction. They require precision, speed, and expertise to meet the demands of AI, cloud computing, and digital infrastructure. RO has spent years refining its approach, and over the past year, we’ve sharpened our focus even further — expanding our mission critical team with top talent at every level, from VPs to superintendents.

That expertise is driving major wins. Databank DFW9 Red Oak, valued at over $365 million, is the largest project in RO history. It’s a perfect snapshot of the future of mission critical: big and bold. These projects are fast-moving, high-stakes, and essential to the future of AI.

INSIDE RO’S MISSION CRITICAL PLAYBOOK

To stay ahead in such a fast-moving sector, we spent 2024 making strategic moves aimed at sharpening our processes and delivering consistent results for our mission critical clients. We’ve focused on enhancing safety, quality control, site cleanliness, and travel practices — all tailored to the unique demands of data center projects. Rising to the challenge, our R&D team developed a mission critical training manual to turn our expert builders into expert data center builders. This sector has specialized demands, and while we’ve always had the right people, few had hands-on experience. The manual closes that gap, giving our teams the skills they need while keeping our culture intact — growing from within instead of overextending with outside hires. It’s better for our people and better for our projects.

Leadership is a key part of this equation. With Graham Merriman, our Senior Vice President of Mission Critical, at the helm, we’ve got a seasoned guide steering us through this evolving market. Alongside VP of Mission Critical Marcus McShan, our team has the expertise and vision needed to navigate the challenges and seize the opportunities that come with this rapid growth. As the world’s appetite for data and connectivity grows, so does the demand for innovative builders who can make these projects happen. As we work to become the premier builder of mission critical projects across Texas, one thing is certain: the future of this sector is bright, and we’re ready to lead the way.
