Houston Elementary Modernization

Houston Elementary School’s modernization replaces the existing Austin ISD campus through a phased approach that allows school operations to continue during construction.

Phase 1 delivered a new 90,841-square-foot, two-story building south of the existing school and Houston School Park. The new campus welcomed students in August 2026. Designed by FGM Architects as part of Austin ISD’s 2022 Bond, the campus includes enhanced security, flexible teaching and learning spaces, mental health and wellness areas, outdoor learning opportunities, community support spaces and spaces for educator collaboration.

Phase 2 is underway and includes demolition of the former school and construction of a new park in its place.
