Project Win Announcement: Humble ISD Kingwood and Kingwood Park High Schools

The Rogers-O’Brien Construction (RO) Houston team is thrilled to begin work on the Kingwood High School and the Kingwood Park High School for Humble Independent School District. RO will conduct extensive renovations, upgrades and additions to the schools, as well as install $30 million in flood barriers at Kingwood High School. This is the largest FEMA funded flood mitigation project in the state of Texas.

"For us, it's great because we have one contractor who's doing both the flood gates and the gyms, so it's a seamless piece around making sure that flood system is seamless around that building," said Nolan Correa, HISD's Associate Superintendent of Operational Support Services.

At Kingwood High School, the RO team is tasked with renovations to the south main entry and a new gymnasium. There are also several career and technical education (CTE) labs being installed, including a nursing lab, a culinary lab and a tiny homes workshop. The scope of work also includes improvements to the exterior and the addition of parking spaces.

At Kingwood Park High School, RO’s scope of work includes renovations to the gymnasium entry, additional office space, the addition of a new gymnasium, as well as courtroom and classroom space.

Finally, RO will install flood barriers at the Kingwood High School. The FEMA funded barriers will create eight-foot, self-rising barriers over main entrances and windows and 3.5-foot barriers over other areas of the campus.

We are proud to have been unanimously selected as the premier builder on this project. The RO Houston office has established itself as a subject matter expert on flood mitigation, with many Houston-area projects under its belt.

Construction on renovations to Kingwood and Kingwood Park High Schools are set to begin in November and be completed by November 2021. The installation of flood barriers is scheduled to begin in early 2021, with completion set for late 2022 or early 2023.
